The of the major differences between major film and independent film is the budget. Major film will have a higher profile cast compared independent because they have a higher budget. Budget affects everything as it really determines the access of talents. Some actors may choose money over genre. If your cast is weak then the marketability of the film which affects foreign sales and numbers of screens that the exhibitors are willing to allocate.
Did you know Paranormal Activity was made for $15,000. It is an independent film and I was successful. So it is not always money but money is key in making a professional film.
Film distributers are responsible for the marketing of a film. It is different from the production company. Distribution deals are an important part of financing a film. They also set the release date.
